Story Of Adam and Eve – “Lucifer’s Plan In The Garden” [Transcript]
The Bible doesn’t tell us why Adam and Eve made the decision to go to the tree. Perhaps at first, just curiosity. But for whatever their reasons they had, they ventured to that part of the Garden of Eden where the Tree of Knowledge stood. It bares repetition, that Adam and Eve were warned about God’s enemy and about the rebellion that was taking place throughout all creation. The most beautiful and majestic of all the angels God had created pitted himself against God in an attempt to over throw Him and His government, and ultimately Lucifer’s plan was to replace God as the ruler over all creation.
Lucifer knew that if Adam and Eve came to the tree, they would immediately recognize him as the one God had warned them about. He reasoned that if he failed to persuade Adam and Eve to side with him, his cause would be forever lost. Unwilling to take this chance, Lucifer devised a plan which he believed would place him in a “no lose” situation. He would not appear to them in his true form and risk them fleeing from his presence because they were that there was this magnificent angel that had become God’s enemy. Instead, he inhabited the body of a serpent, which at the time was not the repulsive slimy reptile that they appear to be today. This serpent was magnificent creature to behold.
Thus, Lucifer chose not to present his case to Adam and Eve on the basis of its own merit. But rather than risk rejection, he would employ a tactic that was virtually unknown anywhere in God’s creation. He would use deception and trickery (something that he himself created), to get Adam and Eve to eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge.
Having been given the job of naming all the animals that God created on the earth, Adam and Eve knew with certainty that animals did not have the power of speech. So, when Adam and Eve approached the Tree of Knowledge, what they saw within the branches of that beautiful tree was this magnificent serpent.
Eve approached the tree first. The Bible tells us that Eve saw the fruit of the tree which appeared to be good to eat, though she knew that God had told her that in the day they ate of the fruit of that tree or even touched it, they would surely die. As Eve gazed at the fruit of the tree, the serpent suddenly began to speak, something that probably surprised and to some degree caused Eve to marvel, as she had never before encountered a talking animal anywhere in the Garden. The Bible records the encounter between the serpent and Eve in the third chapter of the book of Genesis.
“The serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”
Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.” (Genesis 3:1-6 NKJV)
Notice the nature of Lucifer’s statement. Not only does he call God a liar by telling Eve, “You will not surely die!” but he tells her that the actual reason God doesn’t want them to eat the fruit from this tree is that if they do, their eyes will be opened and they will “become like God”. What is fascinating about this statement, is that Adam and Eve were already “like God”, They were created in His image and likeness. Moreover, God had already made them the gods of this world.
